10 kitchen hacks

When you have kids, we all know free time to do the little jobs around the house is non-existent. Organising your pantry never makes it to the top of your list, and when you’re dealing with a smaller space it can seem virtually impossible.

There are heaps of ways to brighten up your kitchen with a few simple hacks, so you get the most out of your pantry space. Here are just a few of our favourites.

1. Plan ahead

Before you decide to tackle re-organising your pantry, especially if it’s on the smaller side, it definitely helps to have a plan in place. Don’t be afraid to change the height of your shelves, or even the depth, to make things more comfortable and useful for you!

2. Don’t forget your doors

If your pantry has doors, there are all sorts of creative ways you can utilise them to increase your storage, or get a little more organised. Hanging custom shelves, using hanging organisers or even painting the inside with blackboard paint to use as a shopping list reminder, you can really open a whole new world of organising with just your doors!

3. Baskets, boxes and bins are your best friends

One of the best ways to reduce clutter in a pantry is to use baskets, boxes and bins. Create categories like chips, baking, spices or group items based on how often you use them. You can even have baskets for certain meals, having all your breakfast items in one so it?s easy to grab when you’re in a rush in a busy morning!

4. Look for clear solutions

Another way to cut down on clutter is to use clear containers, it makes it easier to see exactly what you’re looking for, and when you may need to re-stock certain items. Rather than dealing with different sized boxes and half-opened bags, air-tight, clear containers offer a really clean solution to showing you exactly what you need to grab!

5. Get rid of the packaging

Using containers instead of opened packages means you can easily see what you have on-hand. It’s also a good idea to keep expiry dates on the back of labels or at the bottom of jars and containers.

6. Label everything!

This goes especially for those clear containers and boxes, having labels means not only will you be organised but any little wandering hands that make their way into the pantry will know exactly what and where to look for treats.

7. Stack those shelves

If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of changing the size of shelves, there are so many easy solutions to add stacked shelving yourself. Easy ways to arrange your spices or smaller items in a way that makes them easy to find, and doesn’t cause an avalanche when you’re reaching for something at the back of the pantry!

8. Turn things around

Give turntable trays and lazy Susan a spin as a nice way to easily organise grouped items that might not get used all that often. It’s a convenient way to keep things together without having some items pushed to the back of the pantry where they may be forgotten!

9. Install some drawers

If you have the option, adding some pull-out drawers are another really easy way to make the most of deep pantry spaces that would otherwise become cluttered. Keeping things organised and grouped means you have an easier time grabbing what you need. Just don’t forget those labels!

10. Get specific!

There’s nothing wrong with having too many labels, in fact, the more specific the better! Try not to make things too general so you know exactly what?s on hand, and what you need more of. Plus, it just looks so good!
