WiSE Medical – the alternative for urgent medical care & specialist consultations

As parents we all know how quickly a perfect day can turn on its head when someone in the family falls ill or has an accident.

And how many expectant Mums have spent needless hours worrying about perhaps something not being quite right with their baby? Add to that the stress of trying to quickly decide just where to turn to: Is the GP still open? Will I even be able to get an appointment? Is it serious enough for hospital? Will A & E be packed? Maybe I should wait until tomorrow just in case?

Well that’s one worry you can cross off your list with this with WiSE Specialist Emergency Clinic.  We recently paid the WiSE Clinic a visit to check it out…

The very unique WiSE Specialist Emergency Clinic at Macquarie Park opened in 2017 offering Sydney?s families a brand new alternative to having to visit Accident and Emergency or making an appointment to see a GP or specialist.

The WiSE clinic is a walk in clinic and on arrival, it looks more like a hotel than a hospital. And there is no triage system so you are greeted on arrival and seen directly by one of their 26 Specialist Emergency doctors, who can quickly deal with the treatment of the medical conditions or injuries presented.

Immediate specialist care includes:

  • Minor falls/trips
  • Lacerations
  • Suspected fractures
  • Sporting injuries
  • Problems in early pregnancy
  • Fevers ? adult and child
  • Rashes and skin conditions
  • Work place injuries
  • Vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Dental emergencies
  • Migraines/headache
  • Mild asthma

More than emergency care

In addition to providing expert emergency care, WiSE clinic can also provide acute follow up specialist clinics by appointment including:, available with appointment. These include:

  • Blood tests
  • X-ray
  • CT Scans
  • Fracture clinic
  • Ultrasounds
  • Gynaecology
  • Paediatric services
  • Dental
  • ENT
  • Opthamology
  • Cardiology

See a doctor right away

We all love our nurses but one of the real advantages of WiSE is that you are assessed immediately by a doctor.  Patient care is at the front of all they do and in order to provide the very best experience for all their patients they actually cap the number of patients they will see in a day.  The value of this is reduced waiting times for blood tests, x-rays and ultrasounds.  The average wait time from walking in the door to being assessed and treated is less than 2 hours!!

Acute Care

Acute Care Specialist Clinics are available for Fracture, Pediatrics, Early Pregnancy, Acute Back-pain, Rapid Neurology and Chest-pain Clinics and while you’re at WiSE, if the specialists deem that you need hospital admission, they will handle it all, even arranging for your ambulance transfer to your local hospital.

Paediatrics

Not many parents get through the early years of their children’s lives without illness or injury.  And the WiSE clinic have designed a special unit within the clinic just for our kids!  They can identify and treat fractures and broken bones quickly with immediate x-rays and there is always specialist care available so no more sitting until midnight with a grumpy child in A & E.  Or waiting days for a Fracture Clinic appointment.

Prenatal Care

Whilst the early days of pregnancy are exciting, they can also be stressful? And WiSE Clinic know this and can remove some of that stress.  If you have any concerns, you can head in there and be seen right away for blood tests, ultrasounds and expert care.  So in a little more than the time it takes to watch a movie, you can be seen, treated and back home…and importantly, can stop worrying!

Fees

The upfront cost to treatment at WiSE is $200 which includes emergency assessment by a specialist, and any imaging and pathology required with immediate results allowing their doctors to provide treatment on the spot (intravenous therapy, plastering, stitching etc).

This fee is not covered by medicare or health funds.

There is ample free parking right outside the entrance to the clinic, so while it’s a little drive for some on the Northern Beaches, it’s a fabulous alternative to the already stretched medical system.

While I was there on my visit, a worried Mum with a rash covered son was brought in and taken straight through, along with a comforting cup of coffee, and just minutes later a road traffic accident victim was brought in by a work colleague and again, seem immediately, so it was great to really see the clinic in action.

I certainly hope I never need the services of WiSE, but having seen in first hand, I think it’s a great facility and we are privileged to have access to such wonderful medical treatment….and no more sitting next to the weird and wonderful in A & E for hours on end.
