Ruth got the opportunity to try the Aqua Fresca by Pilu at the Harbord Diggers and here is her?raving review…?
If you hadn’t heard, Harbord Diggers reopened last year and boy have they done an amazing job. The new look Differs does not have the feel of an RSL, rather you feel as though your in a holiday resort as you walk through. Parking is also simple and ample parking underneath.
Quitely tucked away in the corner within Harbord Diggers is a hidden gem called Aqua Fresca by Pilu. This is the same renowned Italian Chef, Giovanni Pilu and his team from PILU in Freshwater. The restaurant does cater for all ages but I went along with my husband and left the kids at home to go for a long lazy lunch on a Sunday.
Once you step into the restaurant you don’t feel like you are even in the Harbord Diggers it’s nicely tucked away and it has a great atmosphere inside.
There is a great choice of traditional Italian dishes here and some with a twist.
The food is so reasonably priced for the quality you get. I felt every course had been made with love as it was presented so beautifully.
We relaxed in with Aperol Spritz?s always a good drink to have whilst reading the mouth-watering menu. We then shared three starters, which in hindsight was way too much as one each would have been enough but we got excited by the menu and wanted to taste everything. All the meals arrived beautifully presented and the flavours were just amazing, so good in fact that we couldn?t leave anything behind!! For mains there are a good selection of Pizzas, Pastas, Steak, Fish and Salads. We didn?t have the Pizzas but they looked fantastic, therefore we will definitely going back for a Pizza night with the kids. We stuck to Pastas which were cooked to perfection. If you like Mussels the Tagliolini is a must ! When it came to desserts you are spoilt for choice and I look forward to our next visit to try more of these. The Tiramusu was to die for and the Affogato was great. The gelato cart outside has some amazing flavors if you simply fancy a good old traditional gelato.
The food is so reasonably priced for the quality in which it is made. I felt every course had been made with love and the presentation was faultless. I love the fact that you can see all the chefs doing their thing in the kitchen also. You could visit here for a casual lunch or dinner or for a special occasion. I?d be very happy to celebrate my birthday or wedding anniversary here.
Overall, with the Incredible food, fresh ingredients, attentive service and pleasant surrounds with some views of the water, I?d say this is the best Italian I?ve eaten at on the beaches. You will not be disappointed, and we will definitely be returning.
Buon Appetito. Ruth
