Appointment of new Principal at Kamaroi Rudolf Steiner School

Kamaroi Rudolf Steiner School, situated in beautiful bush land on the edge of Garigal National Park in Belrose, is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Barbara Maxfield as the School’s new Principal, commencing in Term 3 this year.

Barbara comes to us from her most recent appointment as the Interim Principal at Shearwater, the Mullumbimby Steiner School. Barbara has an extensive and distinguished senior career in education, including roles as the Principal of Northside Montessori School, College Executive Principal at Al Sadiq College, Deputy Principal – Head of Secondary School at McDonald College of the Performing Arts and Deputy Principal High School Management at Moriah College. She began her career as a high school mathematics teacher.

Barbara says of her appointment:

?It is a wonderful privilege to join Kamaroi Steiner School as their Principal in Term 3. Following many years as a teacher and leader in schools, I have developed a deep respect for a child-centred approach to education. I believe it is the best way for children to learn.

Despite commencing my career as Mathematics teacher I have realised that schools should do more than just impart academic skills. They have a role in developing the whole child ? not just the brain. In preparation for the unknown world ahead, children need skills in problem solving, critical thinking, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. They get this in a school like Kamaroi where the educational experience there is described as the Foundation for Life.

2020 has been a tumultuous year for people across the world and more than ever we know how important it is that our children feel secure and that they are emotionally supported. Kamaroi is a place where deep learning occurs and where moral capacity, social consciousness and civic awareness is promoted. What a pleasure it will be to be part of Kamaroi!

Barbara will bring to Kamaroi a deep passion for education and extensive experience in school leadership with over 13 years as head or deputy. These strengths, together with the support of the many talented and experienced Steiner experts on our staff, will lead Kamaroi on the next phase of our journey and most importantly, continue to meet the needs of the children.

The Kamaroi community acknowledges the immense contribution Olga Blasch has made to Kamaroi over the past three and a half years, and particularly her leadership through the damaging storms, Sydney bushfires, and the current global pandemic. Olga has been a steady, calming influence during these times, and her dedication and leadership of the School will be missed.
