‘walk for a kinder world’: A beautiful way to teach our kids about kindness

Have you ever wished there was a simple, joyful way to teach your kids about kindness that didn’t involve another complicated schedule addition? Well, World Kindness Day is coming up on Thursday, November 13th, and there’s a beautiful initiative that both your kids’ schools AND your workplace can get involved in.

The b kinder foundation has created the ‘walk for a kinder world’ and it’s the kind of low-key, high-impact activity we all need right now.

It’s beautifully simple. No complicated planning, no expensive costumes, just walking, connecting, and celebrating kindness together.

There are two ways you can get involved:

For Your Kids’ Schools

If your child’s school hasn’t heard about this yet, you might want to mention it! Schools across Australia are being invited to get their students involved by:

  • Walking together around the oval, playground, or even through the local community
  • Wearing rainbow colours to celebrate inclusion and positivity
  • Making a gold coin donation to help provide kindness resources to schools that need them most

Danny Mayson-Kinder, CEO and Founder of the b kinder foundation, says they designed it specifically knowing how busy schools are. “It’s about walking together, wearing rainbow colours, and celebrating the power of kindness to change lives,” she explains.

These early lessons about kindness help our kids build stronger connections, boost their self-esteem, and create safer, more inclusive school communities. And in today’s world, our kids need these messages more than ever.

For Your Workplace

Workplaces across Australia are also being invited to join in. If you’re heading into the office (or even if you’re working from home and can rally your team online), this is a chance to show your workplace cares about more than just the bottom line.

The workplace version is equally simple:

  • Take a break and walk together, around the block, to the coffee shop, through a park, or even just around the office
  • Put phones down and actually talk face-to-face (remember that?)
  • Make a personal pledge to be kind
  • Donate to support the foundation’s programs

“Workplaces thrive when people feel valued and connected,” says Mayson-Kinder. “And when we feel supported at work, we’re better parents when we get home too.”

Making a Real Difference

The funds raised from both the school and workplace walks support the b kinder foundation’s evidence-based wellbeing programs tackling youth mental health issues, bullying, and suicide. These are the issues keeping so many of us up at night as parents, so knowing our participation makes a tangible difference feels pretty good.

Ready to Get Involved?
