I went along to see The Social Ladder on Friday night and honestly, I loved it. It’s all about a dinner party that starts off awkward and just keeps getting worse in the funniest way. You know when people are trying way too hard to impress each other and everything slowly unravels? That’s exactly what this is.
The characters are all very recognisable, especially Katie, who is desperate to fit in with a more “important” crowd. The dinner guests clearly don’t all like each other, there’s plenty of old grudges, and by the end secrets are coming out left, right and centre. It’s uncomfortable at times, but in a laugh-out-loud way.

There were so many great one-liners and moments where the audience was just cracking up. I found myself laughing a lot more than I expected, and it felt really good to just switch my brain off and enjoy it. It wasn’t heavy or stressful — just clever, funny, and very human.
By the end, I felt relaxed, entertained, and really glad I’d gone. It was exactly what I needed on a Friday night — a good laugh, a bit of escapism, and a reminder not to take people (or ourselves) too seriously. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re after a fun night out and a proper laugh.
The Social Ladder runs for 1hour 50 minutes (including interval) and is at The Ensemble until 14 March Tickets: $46-$119
