Review: Laithwaites Mixed Wine Case

by Mia Brown

As a busy mum (and wife!) who genuinely looks forward to that quiet time once the kids are finally in bed, a good glass of wine at the end of the day is one of life’s simple pleasures. My husband and I both enjoy wine — we’re not experts, but we do enjoy trying different styles while still having a few firm favourites we come back to. Most evenings we’ll share a glass (sometimes two!) while relaxing in front of the TV and catching up after busy days at work.

Forged by family, spurred on by passion and the quest for the perfect wines.

Founded in 1969 by Tony & Barbara Laithwaite, we’re a family-owned wine seller that not only produces our own wines but also hand-selects award-winning Australian and international drops from like-minded, family-run wineries. We make discovering delicious wine easy, with simple online ordering, 100% money-back guarantee and nationwide home delivery.

As we always say – ‘Nobody goes further to find you great wines’

We were asked to review a 14-bottle mixed case from Laithwaites Wine, and overall, we were really impressed with both the selection and the value.

First Impressions

The website was very easy to use — simple to browse, clear descriptions, and the ordering process was straightforward. Delivery was smooth and everything arrived safely packaged. It felt like a proper “treat yourself” box when we unpacked it.

There were 11 bottles in total, which gives a really nice mix of reds and whites — perfect for mixing things up during the week.

The Wines (with rough pricing & our thoughts)

🍷 2 × 2022 30 Mile Cabernet Sauvignon

Approx. $13–15 each
Score: 8.5/10

A lovely, easy-drinking Cabernet. Rich berry flavours, a little bit of spice, and smooth enough that you don’t need food with it (although it was great with a homemade lasagne). This is exactly the sort of bottle we’d open midweek without overthinking it.

🍷 2 × Angove Bin 4242 Limited Release McLaren Vale Shiraz

Approx. $14–15 each
Score: 8.5/10

This one felt generous and comforting — dark fruit, a bit of chocolate, and really smooth. Perfect for cooler evenings. My husband especially enjoyed this one. It felt like great value for the price.

🍷 2 × 2025 Trimboli Salvatore Trebbiano

Approx. $18–20 each
Score: 7/10

A lighter, crisp white that’s easy to sip. Fresh and clean — nice on its own before dinner. Not overly complex, but refreshing and different from the usual Sauvignon Blanc we often buy.

🍷 2 × Avera Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc

Approx. $20–25 each
Score: 8.5/10

Bright, zesty and fresh — exactly what you want from an Adelaide Hills Sav Blanc. Lovely with grilled chicken and salads. This is one I’d happily keep stocked in the fridge.

🍷 1 × 2021 Angas King 1836 Clare Valley Reserve Shiraz

Approx. $65–70
Score: 9.5/10

This was the standout bottle in the case for us. It felt like a “date night at home” wine. Rich, layered, smooth and special. We actually sat at the table properly for this one instead of drinking it on the couch! Definitely a premium bottle and a lovely inclusion in the box.

🍷 1 × 2024 Angove Bin 256 Chardonnay

Approx. $18–25
Score: 8/10

A very enjoyable Chardonnay — creamy but not too heavy. Easy to drink and very food-friendly. We both agreed this would be a crowd-pleaser if friends came over.

🍷 1 × 2025 Boscwood Petit Verdot Shiraz

Approx. $18–25
Score: 8/10

A fuller, slightly bolder red. Something a little different, which we liked. Great with a hearty meal and nice to have something outside the usual Shiraz/Cabernet routine.

Overall Thoughts as a Couple

What we really liked about this case was the variety. There’s enough everyday drinking wine to enjoy through the week, but also a couple of bottles that feel a bit special. It suits how we drink wine — relaxed, at home, usually once the house is finally quiet.

As parents, those small moments in the evening matter. Sharing a good bottle and trying something new together is a little ritual for us, and this case gave us plenty to enjoy over several weeks.

✔ Good value for what you pay
✔ A well-balanced selection of reds and whites
✔ Easy-to-use website
✔ One standout premium bottle included

If we’re scoring the service and entire case overall, we’d give it 9/10. It feels like good value, a thoughtful mix, and something we’d happily order again.

For busy mums and dads who enjoy their evening glass and like discovering different wines without spending a fortune, this is a really enjoyable box. 🍷
