REVIEW: How to Plot a Hit in Two Days

by Mia Brown

The play How to Plot a Hit in Two Days by Melanie Tait takes place in 1985. A big character is leaving the popular Australian TV show A Country Practice, and the writers have only two days to change the story. They need to make the character’s exit make sense, both for themselves and for fans who love the show.

The play is a fun and creative look at how TV writers work behind the scenes. People who enjoy learning about how stories are made will like it. But some younger viewers might not understand all the old TV references, but I don’t feel that really matters.

The play is directed by Lee Lewis. The cast works very well together, and they make the story exciting from beginning to end. There are five actors: Amy Ingram, Genevieve Lemon, Seán O’Shea, Georgie Parker, and Julia Robertson.

They all do a great job. Amy Ingram plays Sharon, a funny character who used to be in jail. She brings a lot of humour and energy to the show. Georgie Parker, who starred as nurse Lucy Gardiner on A Country Practice from 1989 to 1992, plays Judy, one of the writers weighing up Molly’s fate and she is brilliant.

This play is definitely one to go to. Tickets on sale here.
