Quest for the sun – beloved fun run returns to the Beaches

Sun Run registration is now open. Kicking off Sydney’s annual fitness calendar with a fun-spirited event on Saturday 4 February 2023, Sun Run follows a scenic course that stretches from Dee Why Beach to Manly.

With the choice of a 7km or 10km course, this much-loved event gives people of all fitness levels a chance to take in views of Curl Curl, Freshwater and Queenscliff, while raising much needed funds for charity.

Appealing to locals and visitors, as well as runners, walkers and experienced athletes alike, the entire community is invited to participate in this popular, summer fun run.

Mayor Michael Regan says the Sun Run is one of the few charity-based running events that continued through lockdown.

“Sun Run is a family-friendly event. It brings people together. It’s open to all in our local community and visitors of all skill levels. Everyone is welcome.

“On the day there’s a chance to get involved as a spectator, support crew, as a donator of vital funds or to just soak up the wonderful atmosphere on our streets and beaches,” Mayor Regan said.

This year the event welcomes local Shannan Ponton as Sun Run Ambassador – a celebrity personal trainer, fitness mentor, SAS Australia competitor and outstanding coach on TV show, The Biggest Loser.

“Sun Run is a great motivator. It’s an opportunity to train hard and experience the excitement and satisfaction of achieving a fitness goal. There’s nothing quite like it,” Ponton said.

“I like to train the way I live my life – with respect, integrity, physical and mental discipline. Building strength in mind and body is a great way to increase your fitness level and gain confidence. Sun Run, is the perfect excuse to train with your buddies over summer and really challenge yourself, whether you choose the 7km or 10km run, both are a wonderful achievement.”

Registrations open 7 November at sunrun.com.au

Discounted early bird entries offer participants a $20 saving on their entry fee up until 8 December for Sun Run 2023.
