Positivity is a decision

Do you start your day thinking about all the work you have to do? The phone calls to be made, the emails you have to reply to,?or even the pile of dirty laundry wanting your attention?

Or?

Do you think about the things that make you happy? The kiss your child will give you before heading off to school, or the smile your friend always shares, or the fact that, even though you may not have everything you want, you?re doing just fine?

Albert Einstein once said,? ?The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly universe or a hostile universe.?

So let me ask you that question – do you believe the world you live in is hostile or friendly? Be honest.? What?s your true view of the world?

Every single day we all (consciously or unconsciously) make that decision. ?And how we view our world impacts our attitude as we go about our day.

How do you react when someone cuts you off in traffic?? Do you shout and swear or think – at least they didn?t hit me!? If someone is walking slowly in front of you, do you become frustrated and push past them or use it as a reminder to slow down and enjoy the sights and smells of your city?? By starting your day with a conscious decision that the world is good, you?re less likely to react in a negative way when things happen that you didn?t plan. You will have a little more patience. And a little more hope, because good begets good.

Susan Reynolds, co-author of?the book:?Train Your Brain to Get Happy, says that ?feeling pleasure can be so stimulating for your brain that it is primed to respond to pleasure in a way that reinforces that pleasure.?? In other words, the more good you search out in this world, the more good you?ll receive in return.

Choosing to think positively provides a lot of physical health benefits too.

It reduces your risk of depression, decreases your anxiety, and even makes you more resilient against sickness bugs. People who look on the bright side of life tend to live longer, and they have an easier time coping with the stressors that ordinary life has to offer.

I know it?s really?easy to get stuck and stay stuck in negativity, especially with everything going on in the world. You can?t go through your social media feeds without seeing quite a few posts of all of the things that are ?wrong.?

But feeling that way keeps?you?from being happy. It keeps?you?from reaching higher levels of success. Negative thinking has been linked to a reduction in our ability to think clearly, be creative, or even respond to life in an emotionally healthy way.

If you want to be your own personal best, thinking positive first thing in the morning is the way to get there.
