How this approach to early learning can set your kids up for future success

Children, in their early years are at their most formative both cognitively and emotionally, which means it is particularly important to ensure that their early learning years are inspired to set them up for a confident transition into their later school years. The Reggio Emilia approach enhances a child’s sense of curiosity and wonder through their experience, senses and creativity to help them understand the world around them and how things work.

When it comes to children, we know that they can learn in different ways at their own individual paces. Having an open-ended approach to early learning can help a child understand how the world works and start to form an idea of the types of things they like. When choosing a daycare for your child, you should look at the core values of the centre and how they structure their learning and education for the children – this can be a great way to understand how your child can be learning through various outlets of creative play.

As all children are different, it is important to find a centre where your child can have access to all types of learning environments. These can include spaces such as gardens, for children to plant life cycles, undertake hands-on gardening and understand how when we water something it can grow! Music classes are another important structure for children, particularly those who like to express themselves through movement and sound through an interactive environment.

Physical activity is also an important approach to encourage in a child, particularly during their formative years. Not only can it be a fantastic energy burner however physical activity such as dancing or a simple obstacle course can assist with coordination and self expression in a child. Furthermore, dedicating time to fitness and mindfulness such as yoga or deep breathing can assist a child’s wellbeing and emotional patience which we know is a difficult road to navigate, particularly in three-four year olds.

Ultimately, your children will have the opportunity to thrive in an environment where their needs are nurtured and encouraged. Having access to early learning centres with core values that align with your own will not only foster your child’s emotional and physical wellbeing, however it can help prepare them for school and beyond!
