And they really are so true.
What You Think You Become
We forget how important it is to choose healthy thoughts – we need to choose empowering, happy thoughts.
Many of us fail to realise that our thoughts are in fact a choice.
Consider the brain as a kind of receptor that is designed to pick up various passing channels – somewhat like a radio station. Depending on the stimuli around it, all kinds of ideas will be offered to us in the form of what we call “thoughts”. A better name for this “constant conversation in the mind” is brain babble.
The truth is most of this brain babble really is non-sense, and it’s you who chooses what to keep as your thoughts, and what to ignore as babble.
It’s important to not fight thoughts you don’t want – fighting them engages with them so it’s actually taking them on. Think of a boxing arena – when you try to “make a thought go away” you’re stepping into a fight with it.
Instead, simply allow unwanted, disruptive or dis-empowering thoughts to come, and go – just as a cloud passes overhead, or like a passing billboard on the side of the road advertising something bad for you like cigarettes. You simply just don’t go there.
What You Fee You Attract
Just as we can choose our thoughts, so too can we choose our feelings. In fact, much of the time our thoughts direct our feelings. And it works both ways, if we change the way we feel about someone or something, that changes our thinking towards them or it.
Changing feelings can be difficult if our thinking around those feelings is stuck or blocked. And we will know this is what is happening when we desperately want to feel differently about a situation or person, but no matter how hard we try it feels like we just can’t.
It’s easy to fix, but will usually need to happen at an unconscious level. We cannot fix or change something consciously that was created or generated unconsciously.
However, it’s vitally important to feel positive, optimistic and enthusiastic about the people and things in your life that are valuable to you. This will enable you to do, say and be positive towards what you want more of – investing in growing the future you want. And that’s the way to steer yourself toward it.
Think of something simple like money as an example. If the thought of earning a lot of money conjures up feelings of fear, inadequacy, resentment, not being good enough, not being capable or disappointment for example, you will literally chase money-making opportunities away, without really being consciously aware how you did so. On the other hand, if the thought of earning big evokes feelings of joy, excitement, anticipation, inspiration and determination, you will automatically take positive action to this effect.
What You Imagine You Create
Einstein offered some great insight into creating the life we want, through the most powerful means possible – our imagination. He said:
“All meaningful powerful change starts first in your imagination, then works its way out.”
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to what we know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.”
If there is a part of our life we wish to change or enhance, we can imagine being in the solution – we don’t even need to consider or think about how we got there. We simply need to see ourselves living the happy outcome, whether that be being with the love of your life, being in an empowering employment position or having a fit healthy body.
When we allow ourselves to imagine the outcome, and imagine the positive thoughts and feelings associated with living that reality, we actually generate the positive thoughts and feelings that will enable that reality to become our reality. Simple really, isn’t it?
And isn’t it fascinating how all of this works together – our thoughts, feelings and imagination all work together to form our reality.
Moral of this story: Never underestimate the power of you!
