The Keeping Cats Safe at Home project, a joint initiative by the Council and RSPCA NSW, has wrapped up with a purrfectly heartwarming conclusion! They were flooded with adorable entries featuring cuddly kitties in all their glory – some striking hilarious poses and showcasing some truly cat-tortionist contortions (we feel you!).
Buy beyond the cuteness, there’s a serious message at the heart of this project. Keeping your cat indoors is not just about keeping them safe, it’s about protecting our previous native wildlife.
The statistics are staggering: two out of three outdoor cats are at risk of accidents. That’s a sobering number. On top of that, roaming cats are responsible for the loss of countless reptiles, birds, and mammals each year.
By educating cat owners about the benefits of keeping their feline friends indoors, we can achieve a double win: a longer, happier life for your treasured pet, and a safer environment for our native fauna.
The Council expressed gratitude to all participants and congratulated the 50 winners who will be receiving fantastic outdoor cat enclosures. This way, your kitty can still enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, all within the safety of a secure environment.
