World Oceans Day – Bongin Bongin (Mona Vale) Beach

World Oceans Day, sponsored annually by the United Nations, takes place this year on Saturday, 8th of June, with events planned around the globe. The theme for 2024 is “Catalysing Action for Our Ocean and Climate.” In support of this crucial initiative, world leaders have pledged to protect at least 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030, aiming to create a healthy ocean and climate (30×30).

Excitement is building for the upcoming celebrations, which promise to be even grander than last year’s success. The local community is invited to join the festivities – there’s truly something for everyone!

The day kicks off with a Smoking Ceremony at 7:00 am on Mona Vale Beach. Fun, engaging activities like a children’s colouring competition and a sand sculpting contest will be available for all ages to participate in. Media presence will help raise awareness for vital ocean conservation efforts. Renowned figures like Professor David Booth and Valerie Taylor, AM, will grace the event, sharing their passion for protecting our precious oceans.

Feeling adventurous? Take advantage of the opportunity to explore the underwater world! Weather permitting, swimming begins at 7:40am, with snorkeling and scuba diving options also available.

Join the celebration of our magnificent ocean and showcase the vibrant community spirit!
