Manly resident and INXS member Kirk Pengilly is proud to be the official ambassador for Encore Manly, which is the latest on a packed calendar of festivals and events making Manly a hot new destination for Sydneysiders and visitors alike.

Encore Manly is aimed squarely at bringing live music, live comedy, live family entertainment to the great venues we have here by the harbour and the beach,” said Kirk.

“Music brings people together and, as I always remember being told as a kid, music is the universal language.

“Entertainment in general – comedy, music – it brings people together. I think that’s really important now for all of us  to come back together again and be social and hang out.”

Encore Manly is the brainchild of Matt Clifton, a local business operator & Co-Founder of Experience Manly, a local non-profit tourism organisation dedicated to the strategic recovery and growth of Manly’s tourism economy, and is proudly funded by the NSW Government as part of the CBDs Revitalisation Program.

Matt Clifton said the event was designed to attract people not just back to Manly, but back into venues.

“Manly is becoming the epi-centre of entertainment in Sydney – there’s always something on here, it’s a really safe place to go out, we’re family friendly and the community really welcomes visitors to share the good times,” said Matt.

Encore Manly is about celebrating great live Australian entertainment in highly accessible and intimate experiences – we’re bringing some of the best live performers and hottest names to Manly venues and inviting everyone over!”

Manly’s State MP and Minister for Environment & Heritage, The Hon James Griffin welcomed the announcement of the event to the area’s emergence as an entertainment destination.

“Manly is undergoing a renaissance,” said Minister Griffin.

Encore Manly is a prime example of the bold, world class and exciting live entertainment that continues to make its way to Manly.  This is a story of resilience and vision by the arts and hospitality sector in Manly post-lockdowns. The blueprint for the rest of Sydney can be found in the streets and alleyways of Manly.”

Comedian Merrick Watts is excited about being part of the buzz of an event based around smaller venues.

“How fantastic to be gathering together again to enjoy live entertainment, especially in smaller venues – it’s really special,” said Merrick.

Ellis Hall, whose band Loretta will play at Encore Manly, started busking in Manly at the age of 16 and developed his career through performing at many of the venues which will take part in Encore Manly.

“Manly was the start of my career – I started playing at InSitu & Donny’s.  Just as soon as I turned 18 I handed out all my singles to the venues and said ‘let me play here’,” recalls Ellis.

“Having heaps of venues to play in, it’s a really great opportunity as it puts you in front of more people.  The more venues you have to play, the more people see you and you can expand from there.”

More than 20 of Manly’s hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants will host live acts during Encore Manly, including:

  • Banco
  • Beach Club
  • Belgrave Cartel

Northern Beaches MayorCouncillor Michael Regan, said Encore Manly is an example of community and stakeholders working together to create opportunities.

“We’re loving the partnership council, state government and our local business have built during COVID tough times, which has helped us to drive and secure great events like this,” said Mayor Regan.

“I cannot wait to see some of these comedy acts in particular in these small venues!”

Manly’s oldest pub, the iconic Hotel Steyne, will play host to performances from Amy Shark, Boy & Bear, Daryl Braithwaite and Thundamentals.  Licensee Rob Stanley-Jones believes Encore Manly will generate a lot of positive energy for visitors and venues alike.

“The team at Hotel Steyne are both honoured and very excited to be involved in Encore Manly – for us, live entertainment is a key driver of our business, and having such big names performing locally is such a fantastic opportunity,” said Rob.

Tarek Ibrahim, Operations Manager at 4 Pines Brewing Company, says Encore Manly will show visitors what locals have long known – there’s a lot going on in this seaside village.

“What we have on offer in Manly and just how many terrific places there are has been a bit of a locals-only secret, but there are so many hidden places here to discover and we’re keen to show broader Sydney what we have,”  said Tarek.
