Book Review: Treeshape by Trace Balla

by a Mum of an 7-year-old

I read Treeshape by Trace Balla and I really liked it. It’s a calm and thoughtful graphic novel about trees, nature, and noticing the shapes and patterns around us.

The pictures in the book are really beautiful and a bit different from other books I’ve read. They made me want to slow down and look closely at every page. I liked looking at the branches and leaves and trying to spot different shapes in them.

The story also talks about how people sometimes stand up to protect nature and places that are important to them. Trace shares a little bit about when people protested to protect a place called Jabiluka. It shows that people can work together to look after the environment.

This book made me feel calm while reading it. I kept stopping to look at the illustrations and think about shapes I see in trees when I go for walks.

I also really liked the drawing style because it felt peaceful and creative. Treeshape felt like a quiet adventure that helps you use your imagination and pay more attention to nature. I rate it a 9/10! ⭐
