Book Review: Pink Easter

by a Mum of a 6-year-old

Pink Easter by Tanya Hennessy is a bright, playful twist on traditional Easter celebrations, bursting with colour, humour, and heart. With its fun take on doing things a little differently.

I read Pink Easter by Tanya Hennessy with my child, and it instantly became one of those books we had to read twice in a row. As a mum, I really appreciated how fun and colourful it was while still carrying a subtle message about individuality and embracing doing things differently.

What I loved most was watching my child’s reaction. They kept pointing at the pages, laughing at the silly moments, and saying how much they liked that Easter didn’t “have to be the usual way.” It sparked such a natural conversation about how it’s okay to like different things and celebrate in your own way.

For me, it’s the perfect mix of humour, heart, and a little bit of chaos — exactly what you want in a festive family read.

After we finished reading, my child told me they loved that everything was pink and “not normal Easter colours.” They thought it was funny and liked that it felt different from other Easter stories we’ve read.

They said their favourite part was how things didn’t go the way you’d expect, and they kept giggling at the silly bits. The biggest thing they said was, “I like that it can be your own kind of Easter.”

As their mum, hearing that made me smile — because that’s exactly the kind of message I love them picking up from a story.
