‘Unfurled’ exhibition opening by Melanie Vugich
Unfurled by Melanie Vugich
Running free in the outback town of Broken Hill as a child gave Melanie Vugich a deep love of nature that has always influenced her work. She started drawing from a young age and knew early on that she wanted to be an artist. This dream led her to Italy, where she completely fell for the Tuscan city of Florence and decided it was where she wanted to live. It became her home for 25 years.
In Florence Melanie worked as a fabric designer and was introduced to the city’s dynamic community of artists. In her spare time she travelled throughout Europe, painted as much as possible and held countless solo and joint exhibitions.
When it was time to return to Australia, she chose the seaside suburb of Bronte as her base and promised herself she would swim and paint every day. In the years since, she has focused on capturing the wild beauty of nature and sharing her passion for colour, composition and the small but meaningful everyday objects that surround her.
Melanie has recently collaborated with luxury designer clothing brand Oscar De La Renta on their high summer 2021 collection of ready to wear.
