Australia Day Ferrython
The Ferrython, which has been staged on Australia Day every year since 1977, sees Sydney’s iconic green and yellow ferries colourfully dressed in honour of their namesakes as they line up for a race from Fort Denison, around Shark Island and back to the finish line under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Spectators can watch the extravaganza on the water and cheer on their favourite ferry from a number of free onshore vantage spots including Milsons Point off Jeffrey St Wharf, between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Shark Island, and Lavender Bay.
The four ferries that will participate in 2023 are Catherine Hamlin, May Gibbs, Fred Hollows and Bungaree. Each vessel will be filled with invited guests from various community groups and charitable organisations, in a celebration of diversity, inclusive and multicultural society.
Australia Day will be giving away limited tickets on board the Ferrython ferries in the lead-up to January 26. Subscribe to the Australia Day newsletter and follow Australia Day on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to be the first to know how you can be part of the action.
