Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: Sydney

Christopher Wheeldon’s lavish production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland© is set to captivate audiences once again in 2024, plunging them back into the depths of the rabbit hole. Wheeldon’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s cherished novel onto the ballet stage is a masterful rendition, capturing the humor and oddities of the original tale in a fantastical narrative suitable for family audiences. Spectators will be enthralled as the Queen of Hearts storms through her court, the White Rabbit wiggles his tail, and the Caterpillar dazzles in 16 crystal-adorned pointe shoes.

Tony Award-winning designer Bob Crowley has masterfully combined modern technology with traditional stagecraft, creating a magical spectacle through puppetry and striking design elements. Composer Joby Talbot complements the visual feast with an evocative score that perfectly encapsulates the essence of Wonderland, complete with Cheshire cat purrs and the sound of ticking clocks.

The Australian Ballet’s rendition of Alice was honored with the 2018 Helpmann Award for Best Ballet and Best Female Dancer (Ako Kondo), and received nominations in four additional categories, including Best Choreography, Best Scenic Design, and Best Male.
