We are a warm, busy family in Avalon Beach with three wonderful children aged 9, 7 and 3, looking for a special person to become a trusted and consistent part of our family life.
Both parents work full time in demanding roles, and we have very little extended family support nearby. We already have an au pair and good household support (cleaners and a cook), but we would love to find another trusted adult who can become a meaningful and lasting part of our children’s lives.
We are not looking for someone to manage our home or simply provide occasional babysitting. Instead, we hope to find someone who genuinely enjoys children, who our children can build a strong relationship with, and who will come to know and understand our family over time.
The commitment
We envisage starting with approximately 4 hours every Sunday afternoon (2pm-6pm), potentially increasing to 7 hours per week with a mid-week 5pm-8pm slot.
Over time, once a strong relationship has developed, we would also love this person to become someone we can trust to stay overnight with the children occasionally, supported by our live in au pair, when we need to travel for work or spend a night away together.
Who we are looking for
We would particularly welcome interest from experienced parents, teachers, childcare professionals, youth workers or others who have spent many years working with children.
Experience supporting boys with ADHD is essential. We are looking for someone who understands the challenges that can come with emotional regulation, who can remain calm and confident in difficult moments, and who knows how to combine warmth, patience and clear boundaries.
Above all, we are looking for someone warm, emotionally steady, fun, energetic, reliable and genuinely interested in building a meaningful relationship with our children.
Applicants must live either in Narrabeen or above (north) on the Northern Beaches as being local is important to us, particularly given the potential for occasional overnight care.
A current Working With Children Check, excellent references and substantial experience caring for children are essential.
Employment and remuneration
This will be a properly formalised employment arrangement, with a written employment contract, payroll administration, applicable superannuation contributions and appropriate employment insurance all taken care of by us.
We are open to discussing hourly rates proposed by candidates, recognising that experience, qualifications and expertise will vary. For us, finding the right person is far more important than agreeing on a particular hourly rate.
