The Northern Beaches Youth Theatre was reignited in 2021 as a proactive response to the youth mental health crisis on the Northern Beaches. It is a place for Northern Beaches Youth to be seen, to be heard and to belong. Re-founders, Victoria Lockhart and Chantal Harrison are Northern Beaches Mums, creatives and businesswomen with a heart for youth and youth concerns. They know, first-hand, the healing powers of the arts.
Their message has been received and responded to by the community and they are thrilled to see a wonderfully eclectic mix of youth come through their doors, as well as the beautiful community feedback that validates this nourishing work.
They facilitate pathways for youth with any interest in theatre-making to participate, including a vibrant BTSC (Behind The Scenes Crew) aged 12-17, and the upcoming NBYT Young Adult Short Play Festival will see youth creatives ages 15-25 writing, directing, producing and staging entirely new works.
They have produced “Hating Alison Ashley”, “School Of Sharks”, “Christmas Carol High School”, “Anne of Green Gables”, a youth-devised “Christmas Spectacular”, “April Aardvark”, Puffs: OR Seven Increasingly Eventful Years At A Certain School Of Magic”, “30 Reasons NOT To Be In A Play” and their first Shakespeare “Romeo and Juliet” has just closed.
The end of year production will be the heartwarming “Charlotte’s Web”. Youth aged 12-17 are welcome to join Victoria and Chantal for a relaxed reading of the play in the Jacaranda Room at 10 Jubilee Ave, Warriewood 3-5pm on Tuesday, 15th July. Auditions will be held at the same venue, in the auditorium on Friday, 25th July 4-630pm. The reading is a fun but optional way to get familiar with the play and meet a few people.
