Heritage Festival: Walking Old Wollstonecraft
As part of Heritage Festival.
Join North Sydney Council’s Historian Dr Ian Hoskins on a walking tour which explores the cultural and natural history of Wollstonecraft, down Shirley Road around Berry Island and through Badangi Reserve.
The suburb of Wollstonecraft is named after Edward Wollstonecraft, whose vast estate was one of the first and largest land grants on the North Shore. Following Edward’s death in 1832, it became the Berry Estate and remained intact for most of the 19th century. Its subdivision from the 1890s allowed the construction of some of the area’s most beautiful houses and gardens. Some of these survive in Shirley Road, as does bushland on Berry Island and around Balls Head Bay.
