I went to see Bombshells at Glen Street Theatre and honestly, I just really needed a night out. I am so glad I went because it was absolutely fantastic and exactly what I needed.

The play is written by Joanna Murray-Smith and it focuses on five different women who are all just trying to keep it together. The very first character is a young mum who is completely overwhelmed, running around in a total panic trying to manage the kids, the house, and the school run while trying to look like she has everything under control. Her internal monologue is hilarious and so relatable—I think every mum in the audience was nodding along and thinking, “Yep, I’ve been there.”

The rest of the play introduces you to other women at different stages of life. There is a stressed-out bride, a teenager competing in a talent quest, a heartbroken woman talking about her cactus collection, and an older widow. Even though their lives are all completely different, you can see a bit of yourself in all of them. It shows how much pressure women put on themselves to look perfect on the outside when things are actually a bit chaotic on the inside.

The acting was incredible. It switches from being laugh-out-loud funny to really sad and quiet, and then right back to being energetic and entertaining. The time just flew by.

If you are looking for a great excuse to get out of the house, leave the kids with your partner, and have a fun night out with your friends, I highly recommend grabbing tickets. It’s funny, it’s honest, and it just makes you feel good to know we’re all in the same boat.
