How can you know exactly what and who aligns with you if you are buried beneath past trauma? Until you clear it, you will find yourself being distracted or misdirected from what truly enables you to thrive – in both subtle and obvious ways.
Subtle signs such as what I refer to as a state of underlying “un-ease” or more conspicuous signs such as a constant stream of what feels like unhealthy emotional, behavioural, relationship, work or family patterns can highlight underlying unhealed unconscious wounds or trauma.
The good news is your unconscious mind can clear them all. And you will not need years, months or even weeks.
Incredibly, you can clear unconscious trauma instantly – when you are ready.
Every day I see people walk into my practice with a lifetime of unresolved unconscious trauma. It can go all the way back to early childhood and it is often not available to our conscious awareness. It can represent itself in unwanted patterns that seem to almost automatically get in our way or sabotage us.
Sometimes people find themselves in a cycle of relationships for example whereby it feels as if they’re connecting to the same (dysfunctional) person again and again in a different body. Other times, it can present as unwanted habits or patterns of self-sabotage such as procrastination, self-doubt, addiction, anger or fear. It can also present simply as an underlying general anxiety.
What’s really happening is the unconscious trauma is acting like a kind of barrier to us being able to discover who we truly are. And how can we know what and who aligns with us when we don’t really know exactly what the free, empowered, unencumbered real version of ourselves feels like?
Interestingly, we understand physical trauma. If you are wounded, let’s say you break your wrist, you would understand and respect the injury. You would give it the time it needs to heal. You may need to have it in a plaster cast, and then after some time you may need to rehabilitate it. The last thing you would do is play basketball the day after the injury as you would know this would create more injury and impede the healing process.
In contract, when we are emotionally wounded, for example we’re faced with a scary or threatening situation as a child, or perhaps we’re bulled or abused physically or emotionally, we’re often expected to carry on as if nothing happened. We get up the next day and head to school with virtually no recognition of the impact of the wound, and without any consideration for the healing process – the emotional healing process.
We think emotional wounds simply disappear, but the truth is unfortunately they don’t. They sit there, buried deep within us, and fester. Then, over time, they begin to represent themselves in the form of feeling lost, unworthy, or other unwanted feelings, patterns or behaviour.
“Often signs of unresolved unconscious trauma make no sense to the conscious mind.“
The unconscious mind, however, knows exactly where they came from, how they were formed – and most importantly how to heal and resolve them. And it desperately wants you to do this as its sole objective is for you to thrive.
The bottom line here is to let yourself off the hook if you are finding talk therapy is starting to take you around in circles. You many wonder what’s wrong with you and why you’re unable to progress further. Well, you have most likely reached the end of that process and are ready to move past it.
Talk therapy can be vital for understanding and processing consciously before we are able to let go unconsciously. However, we are commonly unable to even access the root cause of unconscious trauma at a conscious mind level. So, if we can’t even access it there it would follow that it’s actually impossible to resolve it there – at the conscious level.
Conscious processes and therapy can also be important logistically, if we are in a dangerous or harmful environment and require help, support, guidance and advice as to how to manage, navigate through or change our challenging circumstances.
By the time my clients arrive at my practice, they have usually reached the point where they are sick of talking and feel they have all the understanding they need. They are ready to heal and let go once and for all.
Timing is imperative. Every modality has its place and each works to support us through the different stages of our healing and evolution.
I often refer clients to psychologists and counsellors and to various organisations or programs if they need to process and talk things through – or if they require ongoing, regular support or care. That’s not my lane. I have some wonderful talk therapists who work in tandem with me to help prepare my clients for the final stage of letting go.
It’s important to know that you do not have to get caught in the circular trap of focusing on problems you literally are unable to resolve. It can feel like a cruel merry-go-round if you are not aware that there is a way forward – when you are ready.
Unconscious emotional wounds are represented by what we think are “unwanted” or uncomfortable feelings. However, these feelings can be the sign that we need some deeper level healing. They are not there to make us suffer but rather to enable us to heal. The wonderful thing about unconscious healing is we do not need to re-suffer. It’s also never about blaming or shaming. Unconscious healing is about trusting your deep innate knowing and allowing it to enable you to thrive.
