Book Review: Heroes – Wylah the Koorie Warrior 5

August 27, 2026

by a Mum of a 9-year-old

We have followed the Wylah the Koorie Warrior series from the very beginning, and Heroes, the fifth and final instalment, brought everything to an emotional, action-packed close.

Written by Jordan Gould and Richard Pritchard, this series has been such a special one in our house grounded in First Nations history and culture, packed with megafauna guardians and dragon-army danger, but always anchored by Wylah herself, who is brave without ever being unrealistic. She doubts herself, she makes mistakes, she has to learn and grow, and that’s exactly what makes her such a wonderful role model for my daughter.

As a mum, I’ve loved that this series has opened up so many conversations about culture, courage and identity, wrapped up in a story that’s genuinely thrilling to read. A gorgeous, powerful send-off to a series we’ve treasured.

My 9-year-old daughter’s mini review

Wylah is SO brave and I love the megafauna, especially the mega wombat. This was the best one because it’s the end and everything gets tied up. 10/10!

Everyone should read this whole series. Heroes: Wylah the Koorie Warrior 5 by Richard Pritchard and Jordan Gould  is available now from Allen & Unwin and major retailers for $17.99.
